I’ve watched a LOT of movie over the years for entertainment. I love all genre’s from the big explosion action flick to foreign art house type films to the average romantic comedy. Out of them all, I loved science fiction the most.
After I got saved though, my heart and therefore my viewpoint had changed. A majority of my most favorite films seemed to be different in some way. The meanings of films like The Matrix, and Logan’s Run to The Truman Show sat differently as I watched them again. It wasn’t merely the violence, swearing, or sexual activity either. More so, it was the underlying themes and messages found within them.
I had always seen film as an art form. And the art of a culture usually depicts the beliefs of a culture. And that is what this section will be about. As I go through some of the films I have enjoyed over the years, I will post critiques about them from a Christian standpoint and link them to this page to be easy to find.
The truth is, we are always being preached at. Whether it is from a street corner or a pulpit; a TV show or film; Oprah Winfrey or John MacArthur… someone is always preaching something. It’s up to us to recognize what we are seeing or hearing… whether obvious or hidden.
