I was just reminded that election time is near. I was renewing my drivers license and was asked what political party I was associated with. Then, I was asked to help pre-press and production on some local political campaign. (I occasionally work for a printer. I’m not promoting anyone.) And this made me think of some of my favorite moment’s in American politics… then I just felt like ranting for a moment.
Obama’s a Christian… no wait he’s a Muslim!
This went on for waaaay too long. I’m sure everyone is tired of four years+ of Obama slander which I’m sure is intensifying the closer we get to November; but, I have to get this one in. This was one of my favorite arguments to hear, “Muslim!” … “No… Christian!” Then I’d interject “Hindu!”

“What?!” they’d say back. Well… Christians and Muslims alike forbid the worship of other gods and idols. And if Obama is either Christian or Muslim he may not have this box of lucky charms. Hanuman the monkey god, Isis Mary with child and a few others. Hindu’s believe in an infinite number of gods. It only makes sense. But seriously, I’d question any politicians religious stance after I read what Christ Jesus said in Matthew 7:16 - Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? So many of our nations leaders claim to be Christian and belong in some secret society. I guess they forgot to check out Deuteronomy 12:31 or any other of the places God forbade idolatry or worshipping Him in the same manner of false gods. Or read the writings of their forefathers in those groups. Meh…
It’s like in an article I read in the paper on modern Freemasonry. A Mason/Christian says that the rituals enhance his spirituality… as the photo’s show inside a temple decked to the hilt in ancient Egyptian relics and symbols. As they read the Bible together, would they skip over Amos 2:10, Exodus 20:2, Micah 6:4, etc? Or after Bible study head over to the temple and read Manly P. Hall praise Lucifer in the Lost Keys of Freemasonry?
But I do thank God for the freedom of religion we have here in the US. I can appreciate the fact that the First Amendment was written to keep the state out of the church… but now we use the term “separation of church and state” to keep kids from praying in school no matter what religion they come from. Also, this concept only applies until a church faces getting their 501c3 revoked if they don’t preach what the state wishes during a national emergency.
We cry out about our right to privacy being infringed upon during the Bush administration, then post our entire lives to the public via twitter, facebook, and flickr.
Many chant out that we are a Christian nation, then I turn on the TV to see everyone doing the “As above, so Below shuffle:

Heck, even the Korean boy band Shinee is doing it in their smash hit video entitled Lucifer. And after I read the Lord’s prayer in the Message, I guess even Christians are doing it. But how is this any different from all the tripple 6 symbolism from the 70′s and 80′s that’s making a huge comeback?
Then there are all the phallus symbols monumented around the country. Seriously, the obelisk is a symbol for the Egyptian sun god or Osiris. Not only can you find one in the nations capital, but they’re all over. There’s even one in front of the Vatican. The “I love you” devil horns are still as popular as ever too.
There’s way more, but check out any conspiracy theorists blog or website and you’ll see way more than I’d ever care to post.
So where does this leave us? Although many will point to Romans 13 in defense of following our nations leaders (and sometimes blindly), we must remember to read other parts of the Bible. Let’s look at 1 Samuel 8:5-20:
5And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.
6But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD.
7And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.
8According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee.
9Now therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit yet protest solemnly unto them, and shew them the manner of the king that shall reign over them.
10And Samuel told all the words of the LORD unto the people that asked of him a king.
11And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and appoint them for himself, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and some shall run before his chariots.
12And he will appoint him captains over thousands, and captains over fifties; and will set them to ear his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and instruments of his chariots.
13And he will take your daughters to be confectionaries, and to be cooks, and to be bakers.
14And he will take your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, even the best of them, and give them to his servants.
15And he will take the tenth of your seed, and of your vineyards, and give to his officers, and to his servants.
16And he will take your menservants, and your maidservants, and your goodliest young men, and your asses, and put them to his work.
17He will take the tenth of your sheep: and ye shall be his servants.
18And ye shall cry out in that day because of your king which ye shall have chosen you; and the LORD will not hear you in that day.
19Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;
20That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.
As we cry out for one president to rescue us from the last with promises of hope, we should really consider what God has told us here: but they have rejected me (God), that I should not reign over them. According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods…
Christ is our Savior, King, and Lord. We should focus on His will. Every ruler, no matter how great (even in the Bible), has their downfalls because they are imperfect men. If we learned anything from reading of the Kings in the Old Testament, we see that they have their moments, good and bad. When they prospered by following God, the countries prospered with them. Likewise when they failed, the country suffered with them. Regardless, pray for whichever leader gets into office, whether you voted for him/her or not. All of us could use some more of prayer. And in November when we go cast our votes on the issues, remember, the electoral college decides who’s going to be the President anyway and our vote may or may not matter. And hopefully when we see another magazine cover with a president it won’t look like Shiva, the destroyer of worlds… You can leave that idol on the front lawn of CERN.
